The clouds that appear white are in the high levels of the atmosphere and are made up of ice crystals. These are called cirrus. The clouds that are darker in color are stratocumulus. These clouds are similar to a cumulus cloud, but they are slightly thicker and since there are breaks of blue sky you can expect fair weather ahead.
