Stratocumulus clouds are stretched across the entire sky and can often bring in a rainy day. The term 'strato' comes from the Latin prefix meaning 'layer'. These are low lying clouds and are found below 2,000 meters. If rain starts to fall, like it is along the horizon, this cloud then becomes nimbostratus.
