The bright towering cumulonimbus cloud on the left side is a developing thunderstorm. Water vapor is being lifted high into the sky from updrafts or strong air currents. These clouds are capable of producing strong to severe weather. The darker clouds in front may be the leading edge of the thunderstorm or known as a shelf cloud. Depending on the direction of the storm, this cloud can produce straight-line winds.
