The puffy clouds that appear like cottonballs are a mix of cumulus and altocumulus. The difference between these two are their heights, 'alto' means 'middle' in latin. The other wispy clouds are cirrus. They are comprised of ice crystals and can get their appearance from the strong upper-level winds.
